Lok Sabha Election 2024 LIVE Updates: In the latest blow to the INDIA alliance seeking to unseat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in an upcoming general election, Delhi Chief Minister and national convener of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by authorities on Thursday over an alleged corruption case. Kejriwal, 55, became India’s first incumbent CM to be placed under arrest after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) took him into its custody in the Delhi liquor policy case.

Several political parties condemned Kejriwal’s arrest by the ED, claiming that it shows how “jittery” the ruling BJP at the Centre is with less than a month to go for the Lok Sabha polls. The opposition parties also accused the BJP of indulging in vendetta politics. The Congress has slammed the BJP over Kejriwal’s arrest and alleged that the saffron party is scared of the outcome of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and creating all kinds of problems for the opposition out of panic.

Congress also slammed the Centre over the freezing of its bank accounts. Senior party leader Ashok Gehlot said the BJP wants to conduct elections the way they are held in Russia and North Korea where poll results are as per the wishes of the ruling party. The bank accounts of the Congress party have not been frozen but the government has recovered (Rs 135 crore) what was legally due to it, top sources said after the Congress leadership accused the Narendra Modi government of throttling its finances.
