The Joint Entrance Examination (Main) is globally acclaimed as one of the most challenging entrance examinations. It is a test in India that students take to gain admission to undergraduate engineering and architecture programs in prestigious colleges, including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
The preparation for the IIT-JEE is famous for being tough, but a recent viral picture showing the intense daily schedule of one aspirant has caught a lot of attention on social media.
According to his usual schedule, the 17-year-old student spends most of his day studying. He wakes up at 4:30 in the morning and goes to bed at midnight, only getting about five hours of sleep each night.
The timetable instantly went viral on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Some were surprised at how much studying the student does, while others thought it was normal and praised the student’s hard work. But then, a former JEE topper joined the conversation with a different opinion.
Kalpit Veerwal, the achiever of a perfect score in the first part of the entrance examination (JEE Main) in 2017, disclosed that he had studied only half as much as the aspiring candidate in question. “I literally scored full marks in JEE Main 2017 (AIR 1) and didn’t study half as much,” he wrote on X.

Another X user, Ankish, who claimed to have cleared the IIT JEE entrance examination, dismissed the viral post as “exaggerated.” I have prepared and qualified too, but I could not remain productive for more than 6-8 hours/Day. 14 Hours is an exaggeration,” he shared.

8 Tips to Create a Perfect Study Schedule for IIT JEE Main

  • Know Yourself: Before making a study schedule, take a moment to understand what you’re good at and what challenges you face. Being aware of your strengths and weaknesses will make your schedule more realistic and achievable.

  • Work with Your Strengths: Arrange your study sessions to match your peak performance times. For instance, if you’re most alert in the mornings, tackle the tougher subjects like Physics or Math first. This way, you can give your best focus to the trickier topics.

  • Manage Your Time Wisely: Divide your study time effectively among Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Spend more time on the subjects you find tough, but balance them out with subjects you’re more comfortable with to avoid getting overwhelmed.

  • Set Clear Goals: Instead of vague aims like “study Chemistry,” set specific daily goals like finishing a certain chapter and solving a set number of practice problems.

  • Review Regularly: Schedule regular revision sessions throughout the week to reinforce your understanding and keep concepts fresh in your mind. Don’t leave everything for last-minute cramming.

  • Take Breaks: Breaks are crucial! Include short breaks between study sessions to recharge your mind and improve your focus. Use this time to move around, stretch, or grab a snack.

  • Practice with Mock Tests: Incorporate regular mock tests into your schedule to simulate exam conditions. Analyze your performance afterward to pinpoint areas for improvement and fine-tune your exam strategy.
