One of the wealthiest Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar is currently posted as the inspector general of police in Punjab. An IPS officer from the 2004 batch, he possesses properties over Rs 150 crore, based on data from the Union Home Ministry, as per a report by DNA.
Bhullar was named Jalandhar’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) a few years ago. He served as Mohali’s SSP for the longest. The IPS officer served two terms — 2015 to 2016 and 2009 to 2013. He earned a BA honours degree before joining as an IPS officer in 2004. His father, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, and grandfather, Gurdayal Singh Bhullar, had also worked in the same city and served as IPS officers. Gurdayal Singh Bhullar was the SSP of Jalandhar from 1957 to 1960.
When Bhullar disclosed his immovable assets in 2016, it made news. He was far wealthier than former CM Captain Amarinder Singh at the time, the news agency reported. Badal reported a net worth of Rs 102 crore, while Captain Singh asserted a net worth of Rs 48 crore. According to reports, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar’s assets included eight homes, three commercial properties, and four agricultural plots.
As per the report, he also owns a vacant 1,500 square-yard plot in Sainik Farms, Delhi, and a commercial property worth Rs 85 lakh. Additionally, his uncultivated land in a Mohali village was valued at Rs 45 crore, which has been sourced from inheritance. Furthermore, in January 2013, he purchased twelve properties.
Gurpreet Singh Bhullar is among several IPS officers based in Punjab who have disclosed information about their assets, including those registered in their names, their spouses’ names, and their parents’ names. This disclosure has been available to the public since 2011.
Meanwhile, the Union Public Service Commission, UPSC has postponed the civil service preliminary exam 2024 due to the general elections. The exam which was scheduled to be held on May 26 will now be conducted on June 16. Through the recruitment drive, the commission aims to fill around 1056 vacancies.
